Manufactured or Modular?

Manufactured and modular are terms often confused. Both are types of factory-built homes, but there are a few differences. They begin as components and are designed, engineered and assembled in a controlled, factory environment.

Manufactured Homes are built on a permanent chassis that can be used with or without a permanent foundation after connection to utilities. The steel chassis is part of your home and stays on your site. Usually manufactured homes come in one, two or three sections.

Modular Homes are also factory built. They begin as components and are designed, engineered and assembled in a controlled, factory environment and come to your site on a carrier that is returned to the factory. (called returnable carrier) It is installed on your permanent foundation in 2 or more modules depending on square footage and number of stories.

All single wide homes that Thomson sells are built in the manufactured homes style and come on a permanent chassis.

Keep in mind that both Manufactured and Modular homes are built with up to 30% more material than site built homes to withstand the rigours of transportation and the ability to be lifted onto your foundation. When your home is completed you can rest assured you are living in a well built, solid home.
